Overview:

The Perry-Castenada map collection is a compendium of many types of maps, each designed to showcase different regional aspects: these include topography, ethnic composition, illicit trafficking, market size, time zones, and ocean currents. Most of them are produced by the CIA. There are world maps as well as maps of areas of the world.

Strengths:

• Provides a wide variety of content • Sources are provided so information is reliable and valid • Variety of maps are provided, so useful in many courses • Provides projections such as world ages, water usage, etc.
Concerns:

• Current dates are only 2015 • Not updated for projections • The presentation is somewhat two dimensional, in that the material is not amendable to different learning styles.

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool

• Great variety of information provided • Very efficient • Can be used in many situations • Maps can be viewed from a multifaceted perspective.
Concerns:

• Not meant to be learning activity, so faculty will need to develop an assignment • Students may need some introduction, as there are many resources, so could be confusing

• Students may need some explanation for the variety of maps • Many of maps don't have codes
