TESS-India is led by The Open University and Save The Children India, funded by UK Aid it is a multilingual teacher professional development programme whose aim is to support India’s national educational policy by enhancing the classroom practice of primary and secondary school teachers through the provision of freely available, adaptable Open Educational Resources (OER).

A collaboration between Indian and UK educational experts and policy makers, the OER aim to support the adoption of more learner-centred, inclusive, participatory, engaging, effective classroom pedagogy, thereby positively influencing children’s progress and achievement throughout their schooling.

The OER focus on the development of these pedagogic practices in relation to Language and Literacy, Science, Maths, and English. Each unit includes case studies, readings, reflective tasks, and – most importantly - opportunities to apply and refine these practices in the classroom. The units are complemented by authentic videos of other Indian teachers employing new practices with their own students.

The information within the resources is a good source for professional development and can be broadened to use in group development/professional learning circles. The site includes examples of how to implement the materials.

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool

Strengths:: The objective of this compilation of resources is to give teachers in India resources to enhance their knowledge. The materials can be used as professional development or in a structured learning environment which could include a pre- or in-service teacher education program at a college/university. Professional learning communities may find this resource invaluable.

Other Issues and Comments:: English language version of the site was reviewed. The material of the eight other languages was not reviewed.
