Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
Instructions are very clear on how to use the website. As stated above, there are a wide variety of applications for a wide range of students. Learners are provided a case study of child abuse reporting requirements, processes, and procedures.
Concerns:
The website describes how to do reporting procedures. It is clear on what laws it ties back to in looking at the roles of the professionals and public. It is light on the academic areas of research which informed the laws, and basic background definition of child abuse/neglect. More examples would help to illustrate the rationale behind the laws and reporting. The training is state specific and not all sections of the module are applicable to other geographic areas.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
The material is self-directed (students may complete at their own pace). There are multiple playback options (training topics may be accessed by outline, thumbnail, or notes). The content is sequential and can easily be integrated into a course.
Concerns:
Students must have basic knowledge and recognition of child abuse and neglect including reporting procedures in their geographic location to ensure progression and efficiency of learning. Reporting processes are specific to the state of Tennessee. The presentation does not include any assessment of student learning outcome.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
It is very easy to use and has clear instructions and is visually appealing.
Concerns:
Lacks some links to case examples in video form such as URLs to YouTubes. The font may be a bit small on the sidebar outline. Learners would benefit from a state-specific disclaimer.
Other Issues and Comments:
Good resource for case studies, comparative studies, and individual projects. The material was current as of 2014. Not clear how often it is updated and if there have been changes in the laws.
