Type of Material:

Recommended Uses:
Out-of-class resources to locate humanities articles about a research topic.
Technical Requirements:
PDF/HTML.
Identify Major Learning Goals:
Instructors could use this website to teach students about locating scholarly resources in the humanities. Sociology instructors could use it to locate resources outside the discipline about subtopics in sociology (e.g., LGBTQ, bodies, activism, media).
Target Student Population:
College General Ed, College Lower Division, College Upper Division, Graduate School, Professional, Humanities.
Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills:
None.
Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
Content is good quality and well presented.
Concerns:
As a Humanities journal, the sociological import might not be at first apparent.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
Students will gain familiarity with researching in open access journals, and learn to navigate information. The search button works well. The coverage of topics is diverse.
Concerns:
This resource is well designed and of use for humanities students. While sociology students could use it to get an outside-the-discipline perspective, I'm unsure that this is particularly useful to students who are just learning the sociological perspective. The instructor must design all the teaching aspects.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The website's layout was designed well. It is organized and clear. Links appear to work. The website is easy to navigate. Very intuitive interface that will engage students with journal research options. And keyword search is possible and works well.
Concerns:
The only issue is that it has not been around very long so there are not many issues.
Other Issues and Comments:
Good quality resource joining humanities with social science, and more specifically sociological concerns.
