H5P's Authoring Tool (https://h5p.org) is used by the global Open Education and K-12 Education Community to create and share Open Educational Resources (OER). H5P is compatible with several Classroom Management Systems and Learning Management Systems. H5P's Authoring Tool will integrate the H5P OER HUB to better facillitate H5P content created and currated by the global, collaborative H5P community.

The most important feature is the author guide which helps the user to move through the work required step by step. In addition, the author has added a list to the features added as time goes on.

H5P makes it easy to create interactive content by providing a range of content types for various needs.

You can create interactive content by adding the H5P plugin to your WordPress, Moodle or Drupal site, or integrate it via LTI with Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard and many other VLEs that supports LTI integration.

An author guide is found as well for guidance how to apply different ideas

No technical requirements for Browsing for content. The H5P Content Hub will be an integrated part of the authoring tool.

Facilitate worldwide sharing of a large variety of HTML-based content and technologies
Make it easy for content creators to deliver and publish HTML content on different CMS, LMS, LCMS and other frameworks
Contribute to better HTML5 content by making it even easier to cooperate and reuse great web technology

Target Student Population:

This H5P OER Hub is specifically designed to be used by teachers of all age groups, however, the activities that are found within the 'Hub will meet the needs of learning materials for Grade School, Middle School, High School, College General Ed, College Lower Division, College Upper Division, Graduate School, Professional, Pre-K

Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills:

No prerequisite knowledge is needed to search the hub for activities, however, creating or using an H5P activity will take some basic computing skills.

To create activities, users must know how to make Presentations and how to upload them to H5P.

Strengths:

Teachers who access this resource will find a wealth of activities they can fairly easily integrate into their current curriculum such as Games, Multimedia, Questions & Social media. Some of the most popular content types are Interactive Video, where the user can create videos enriched with interactions, Course Presentation, where you can create a presentation with interactive slides, and the Branching Scenario (beta) for creating dilemmas and self paced learning.

In addition to these three above, there are about 40 other content types that might be found or created including dialog cards, audio recorder, flashcards, find the hotspot, timelines and even virtual 360 tours.

The material covers a wide range of items to add interactivity to presentations, in addition to being suitable for a range of platforms.

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool

Strengths:: H5P activities can be used in a wide variety of ways to achieve teaching & learning goals so the ability to search a hub of ready to use materials with learning goals and uses clearly defined will be valuable to teachers. If the materials need to be tweaked to specifally target a certain topic or learner, teachers are allowed to reuse the content any way they choose. And if no current content meets the requirements, a teacher is invited to create and share their own activities.

The website provides a wealth of support documentation and video on the use of the H5P tool including Getting Started, Installation & Setup, Developer Guide, Content Guide and Contributing.

Navigating the H5P OER Hub should be very easy for users. Currently the site has video demonstrations for Browsing, Sharing, and Adding Meta Data.

A note on Accessibility

The goal for the accessible content types is WCAG 2.1 AA support, so the content types have been tested against these criteria and more. The content types have gone through a lot of testing with various screen readers, keyboard navigation, zooming, code inspection and more. We can't, however, guarantee any level of accessibility support.

If you have basic skills for making a Power Point Presentation, it is easy to apply the changes proposed to add to the interactivity of your work.

Concerns:

This review is mainly for the H5P OER Hub. The H5P tool itself does have a learning curve especially for creating some of the activities.

Other Issues and Comments:

Users can expect to find the OER Hub integrated with the H5P tool which may not be available to them in their LMS yet.

Also be aware that as this review is written, the OER Hub is in the process of moving from Adobe Flash to downloadable software.

The fact that there are tutorials for every item in the app is a great help for users. Also having a feature for analysing results and answers add a lot to the quality of the app and teachers and educators do better work.
