This series of videos introduces the generations, defines the term generation, and provides an introduction to a brief history of pedagogy in the 20th Century.
Type of Material:
Presentation of a series of 5 very short (:15 - 1:30) videos which are basically one screen powerpoints with some audio narrative.
Recommended Uses:
The only purpose is to give an overview outline. The rest of the course will need to be developed by the instructor. One suggestion is given orally to think of your own generational characteristics.
Technical Requirements:
High speed internet
Identify Major Learning Goals:
The purpose of the site was to give a very brief overview to what appears to be a segment on 'generations'. The slides seem to show little more than an overview of topics that could be presented in more detail elsewhere.
There is no stated goal. It is presumed the topic and outline as seen in video 1 prepares students for detailed presentation on the overview shown in the following 4 videos.
Target Student Population:
High School, College General Ed, College Lower Division, College Upper Division, Graduate School, Professional
Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills:
None
Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
Strictly an overview of topics to be covered.
Concerns:
Beyond the most basic introduction, this offers students little.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
May stimulate curiosity about topics to be covered.
Concerns:
No specific goals are set No instructions to follow to learn more. No student learning interaction or evaluation. Simple definition of generations only. Could be looked at in more detail and depth.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
Web page neatly laid out with sequence of videos. Is easy to use.
Concerns:
No instrctions for use. Software is simple series of videos - all could have been put on one 5 minute video. No references listed or additional resources.
