Get Body Smart is a fully animated and interactive online textbook about human anatomy and physiology, which is available for free. A tutorial with flash animations on the human systems; part of the Get Body Smart web site (by ConceptCreators, Inc.) called "An Online Examination Human Anatomy and Physiology." Includes skeletal system, musclular system, muscle tissue physiology, nervous system, circulatory system, respiratory system, urinary system, and histology. Online textbook is in Flash, but there is a version compatible with the iPad and other mobile devices.

This is a free online visual tutorial that includes written and visual interactive software related to anatomy and physiology.

Recommended Uses:

The best use of this material is both self-paced individual and group study. The interactive tutorials can be used in class integrated within lectures or assigned as homework.

Technical Requirements:

Identify Major Learning Goals:

The purpose is to teach basic anatomoy, histology, and radiological anatomy.

The learner will be able to identify 5 types of tissues in the body.

The learner will be able to describe the anatomy of the upper and lower limbs, the abdomen, the head and neck, the pelvis, the thoraz, and spine and back.
For radiological anatomy, the learner will be able to describe the head/neck, brain, face, thorax, upper/lower extremities, and abdomen/pelvis.

Target Student Population:

College General Ed, College Lower Division, College Upper Division
This material can be used for vocational high school programs as well as entry level college course and higher.

Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills:

Biology would be a useful prerequisite.
Computer skills are necessary as well as chrome and a acrobat reader.

The material is accurate and reliable.
It depicts reality.
The content is clear, concise, and up-to-date.
The content is taught and then three levels of quizzes are offered. When an incorrect response is given, there is a quick, negative sound, and then the correct response can be selected.
The content may aid in learning anatomy because of teaching in another mode.
Each new terminology is explained in laymans terms.

Concerns:

For the level it is intended, this is excellent - no concerns.
The content is basic.

The quizzes are interactive.
This material can easily be used as a learning strategy within a traditional classroom. The learning material appeals to both the visual and audio learner. The images are captivating and the videos are very clear.

The site does facilitate learning in ways familiar to young students.
The software is easy to navigate and the language is clear and concise.
The quizzes are interactive.
The quizzes alert the user that an error was made, so the learner could then select the correct response.
There were no major bugs.

Concerns:

A title page describing where content is located would be helpful. It took a while to find where the quizzes were.
The Go Premium add kept interupting. --Go Premium is available in a few different payment types.

Other Issues and Comments:

Use required a sign-in with a password to use the site.
Was able to use the 1-hour free trial. The timer kept showing how much time there was remaining.
