Overview:

Leading Change in Health Systems: Strategies for RN-BSN Students is designed for practicing nurses pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This book is focused on building upon previous knowledge, skills and attitudes Registered Nurses (RNs) related to leadership in healthcare systems. Readers will be able to apply the theoretical knowledge gained from this course in their clinical practice environment.

The textbook is a book designed specifically for RNs in a RN to BSN program who are studying leadership in nursing. 

This book is focused on building upon previous knowledge, skills and attitudes Registered Nurses (RNs) related to leadership in healthcare systems. Readers will be able to apply the theoretical knowledge gained from this course in their clinical practice environment.

Each chapter includes a Spotlight Application, which includes examples of leadership challenges in healthcare and is designed to apply chapter concepts in an unfolding case study. Applied Learning Activities are included in most chapters. These activities are intended for students to apply to real world situations experienced by practicing nurses in a complex health system. Appendices are included at the end of this book and include strategies for integration of leadership tools in a variety of healthcare systems. Appendix A includes Scholarly Writing Resources that are provided for reference to professional writing style that is often a challenge for nurses unaccustomed to these particular requirements. Educator: consider adopting it in your courses to support RN-BSN students as they balance work, home and many other priorities. Appendix F includes Teaching Strategies that provide suggestions on integration of various tools within the book, including Applied Learning Activities and Spotlight Applications.

Concerns:

 

  • The ebook does not overwhelm with too much information on the topics. Some topics are concise with additional hyperlinks that expand the information. The first appendix links to scholarly writing resources that would be useful for students not accustomed to writing papers.

Other Issues and Comments:

 

The chapters and units were numbered within to allow ease of movement. Well organized with good use of activities that should appeal to learners.
