Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
The item emphasizes the importance of understanding that a school resides within a broader community and is not immune to pressures from that community.
The discussion between the two speakers with opposing views on the topic is passionate and promotes deep reflection on the part of the listener.
The audio cast could be used in a variety of assignments to generate discussion on the topic.
Concerns:
There seemed to be a number of competing priorities. In addition to school as organization and school as community there is mention of school improvement plans and teaching and learning but then back to addressing felonies and school safety.
What are the next steps?
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The audio cast is clear, easy to stop and replay key parts. The transcript is fairly close to what the speakers say and closed captioning is available. Here is an edited transcript that may be helpful.
The YouTube format is easy to launch and navigate, and plays within Chrome.
Concerns:
The guide mentioned in the overview does not seem to be available at the website even though there is a tab for materials/resources. The guide provides activities that are mentioned in the audiocast and would certainly enhance the usefulness of listening.
The information would be more accessible if slides or videos were to accompany the audio.
