The resource is a collection of the nursing virtual simulations developed by WTCS faculty and the Open RN team. Each simulation is designed in H5P and is available under the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license, allowing free and open access for faculty to utilize, adapt, or modify them.
Type of Material:
Collection
Recommended Uses:
These simulations can be used as a supplement to in-class learning or can be used in a clinical setting for continuing education.
In-class learning
Individual learning
Team learning
Technical Requirements:

Web browser
Identify Major Learning Goals:
There are numerous nursing virtual simulations. Each virtual simulation has specific learning outcomes.
The virtual simulations have solid clinical application.
Target Student Population:
College Lower Division
College Upper Division
Graduate School
Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills:
General nursing knowledge
Navigational computer skills
Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
The simulation case studies include content that is accurate and valid.
Each virtual simulation includes an introduction, videos, and a question after each video. Some simulations have several videos.
The content of the simulations is appropriate and current.
The virtual simulation approach is outstanding for application!
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
The resource includes knowledge check questions for learners to test their understanding of the concepts.
The teaching-learning goals and methods used are easy to identify and facilitate learning.
The virtual simulations are well organized.
The content can be utilized in a variety of ways.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The videos within the resource include closed captioning.
The virtual simulations are web-based. The text is selectable.
The virtual simulations are created using H5P software.
The links are in working order.
The navigation is consistent.
The site is robust.
Concerns:
While the source is excellent, some images lack text captions on the main menu page. A recommendation is to add text captions to the images on the main menu page.
Once entering a virtual scenario, One cannot return to the main menu on the same tab. However, clicking on a virtual scenario opens a new tab, so the main menu remains open in the web browser. It would be helpful to include clear instructions on the main menu explaining this to users.
Other Issues and Comments:
The virtual simulations are exceptional work! Thank you for your scholarship and sharing!
