Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
This textbook discusses the “why” and not just the “how” of accounting concepts.
The textbook flows naturally and is very concise.
The textbook presents that the closing entries may be closed directly into the retained earnings, which is rarely mentioned in other textbooks.
The author provides the audience with a practical method of teaching financial and managerial accounting concepts.
Concerns:
Students who prefer traditional lecture method may have a problem with the OER and hence may require more teacher facilitation to max learning of content.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
The accounting cycle is spread across several chapters, which makes it easier to teach because the instructor is not trying to force so much information on students in one chapter.
The graphics and charts are not complicated and easily understood.
The digital layout is very well organized and easy to use.
Teachers and students could learn a lot in a short time.
Concerns:
Students who prefer the traditional lecture method may have a problem with the OER and hence may require more teacher facilitation to maximize learning of content.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The ability to click on the learning objective when answering the homework questions is an excellent feature for the student.
The digital layout of the textbooks is very appealing and easy to use.
The “Thought Provokers” at the end of each chapter provide a good way to make students think about the material they have learned.
The author’s website and related educational OER in Financial and Managerial Accounting are professionally done.
Concerns:
My only concern in using the material is how easy it would be for students to answer the questions.
If the material can be added to an LMS, it might be possible to answer the questions as multiple-choice questions and short answers.
Other Issues and Comments:
These are good textbooks which present the material in easily understood explanations and examples.
