The videos are clear and concise while providing complete demonstrations and explanations of core sociological concepts. The content is current, relevant, and grounded in disciplinary scholarship, with accurate information and appropriate references and attribution. Each video is self-contained, making it easy to use without additional assignment instructions or background context. Strengths:
The site provides a well-structured learning experience that clearly identifies the learning objectives and builds understanding progressively. The videos establish or reinforce prerequisite knowledge when needed and connect new concepts to previously introduced material. They also demonstrate relationships between sociological concepts, helping students see how the ideas work together rather than learning them in isolation.
The material in the videos reinforces concepts in a progression, with several videos on communication and several on culture. The videos build on basic sociology concepts, while introducing key ideas and depicting relationships between key concepts.
Concerns:
It would be helpful if the videos included a main idea or "this will cover" slide and ended with a wrap-up or summary of key ideas slide.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The videos are easy to navicate and use. The user only needs to have access to youtube.com. Graphics are well done and move through the video. It is visually appealing. It is a youtube video, so it does not have a help feature or link. It does have AI Ask attached through youtube.
Easy to navigate with YouTube as the platform for viewing. Closed captions are included with each video and appear accurate.
Concerns:
Some sections contain an overwhelming number of graphics, which can make the presentation difficult to follow. The speaker’s delivery is also somewhat monotone, and the narration could benefit from more vocal variety, energy, and enthusiasm.
Screen readers could not describe the images or slides, but the instructor audio does help with this.
Other Issues and Comments:
All 12 of the videos are from March 2023 and may need to be updated in the future.
