Overview:: Onisep, the Office national d'information sur les enseignements et les
professions, is an organization that provides academic and career information
for students in France, Europe, and around the world. The career videos on the
website feature professionals in the workplace. These individuals describe their
careers in an attempt to provide as sense of their day-to-day activities. While
these materials were not created with language learning in mind, they present a
powerful tool for French language educators who want to give students a glimpse
of the real working world. It is also extremely useful for the enhancement of
career vocabulary.

Rating:
Strengths:: The variety of videos on this site is its outstanding feature. From press
attachés to carpenters, from masseuses to firemen, there are video clips from
young professionals from all walks of life. After watching the video, the user
can click on a "fiche métier", a document that describes the particular
profession, the working conditions, the qualifications expected, the approximate

pay range and the educational requirements. There are presently many more
"fiches" than videos, which leads one to believe that the video collection can
only grow. After each video the user is invited to fill out a customer service
questionnaire to assure the technical quality control of the videos.

Rating:
Strengths:: These materials are not designed specifically for language classes, so there
will be work to do to adapt them to the curriculum. However, they are lively,
authentic, and full of information so that designing instructional
materials around them is easy and enjoyable. Every major French language
textbook, particularly those at the post secondary level, includes a lesson on
the professions. Students can do reports comparing the professions, they can do
interviews and role plays and much more. Students can compare the salary ranges
for a number of professions and see how they match the salaries in their own
country. There is no limit to the creative exercises that could be developed.

Strengths:: The site is well-designed and easy to navigate. The videos come right up and are
easy to watch. The usability questionnaire shows a particular commitment to
ease of use.
