Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
This module has a clear purpose--to present sentence patterns and provide exercises for practice. It provides a clear table of the sentence patterns in each lesson. Students can learn the sentence patterns through drag and drop exercises, multiple-choice answers, and jeopardy games. Roughly speaking, the amount of exercises increases in each consecutive lesson. The material is well organized and the language is representative of the learners vocabulary level.
Concerns:
Although there are external links, the module should at least contain some audio. The drag and drop exercises do not always work. Some answers in the jeopardy game are obstructed and are difficult for beginning learners to recognize the Chinese words.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
The exercises are designed to be undertaken concurrently with the class schedule. Therefore they can be used effectively as supplemental material in class or as homework assignments.
Concerns:
The exercises are not extended to larger contexts where students can learn their pragmatic uses in actual situations.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The tutorial and exercises are user friendly, and the texts are in large print. Navigation is simple, and the general appearance of the Web pages is appropriate and appealing.
Concerns:
There are links that do not work, and some exercises are not completely functional as mentioned above.
