Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
This is a wonderful site for self-instruction because all the main components for sounding-out are presented in an orderly manner. If a learner follows the way laid out in the site, s/he will get a picture of sound making system of Korean. Also, the categories are well divided so that learners can go back and relearn only the part the learner wants to review. Also, this tutorial presents clear guidelines for inexperienced teachers to follow the order and method of teaching. Explanations of sound making principles are very easy to understand.
An additional feature of this site is Tourism guide and Photo gallery which introduce tourist attractions and images of the country. Also these pages provide brief descriptions along with the images and pictures.
Concerns:
There are not enough examples for each category of sound. Teachers need to add, alter and create more examples to provide enough practice or to give out assignments. The cultural notes and images have not been updated recently.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The screen display is very easy to follow. Every screen is consistent with the same format in quantity of message, font, color use, and link to the main page. There are audio files to listen to the sound of alphabet, syllables and words spoken by a native speaker of Korean.
Concerns:
The sounds of Korean could be easier to imitate with video of the speaker as well as sound.
