Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
The content of this site is a compilation of topics and categories for beginning learners of ESL. It starts at a basic level and works up to harder topics. The topics covered are common topics that beginning learners learn during their first and second years of language learning such as: letters, numbers, sounds, family relationships and weather. The graphics are a wonderful additional aid to the audio supplied; they are clear and relevant to the word or phrase being learned. The students can use the mouse to change certain parts of the content to show the difference between pronouns or weather conditions. Overall, the content of this site is excellent.

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
This site could be used as an additional teaching tool for lessons that are related to the set list of topics covered. It would be a perfect site to use when introducing a topic for the first time or providing background knowledge for a new topic of discussion. It is a wonderful supplement (or replacement) for paperwork and is definitely a valuable addition to a classroom that commonly integrates technology into lessons. The function buttons are easy to identify and easy to navigate and should be a requirement to every beginning level ESL.
Concerns:
None
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The technical quality of this site is not as superb as other language learning sites, but it features large, colorful, easy to read fonts and does not offer many places for the learner to get lost. The site has clearly distinguished topics a brief description to after them to clarify the content.
Concerns:
The audio on this site is not that of a native speaker but rather that of a computer/automated voice. It would be more helpful for students to have a clear voiced, native speaker recorded to better hear how to pronounce the words. The other drawback of this site is that it does not have any video clips attached. The graphics are animated, but there are no videos on the site.
