This set of 20 flashcards was created by a student studying budgeting using the free website Quizlet.com. In addition to flashcards, the content is used by the system to create test items and games. Users have an option to add audio to the flash cards. Anyone can register with the site to create their own personal flashcards. The Study tab contains the following items:
Flashcards - definitions and concepts related to budgeting.
Learn – questions from the information in the flashcards are presented and you have to type in the response.
Speller – presents the information and you must correctly spell the response.
Test – answer questions created from the flashcards.
Scatter – drag and drop to match the definitions and terms to make them disappear from the screen.
Race – Kill scrolling term/definition by typing in the correct response before the item disappears from the screen (requires speed).

Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
This interactive module includes more than just flashcards. It has 3 to 4 games that can be played (users must be able to type fast on some of them) and a test for formative assessment. Users have the option of listening to audio as well. Content is current, relevant, accurate, and flexible demonstrating core concepts grounded in the discipline.
Concerns:
Responses require an exact match or will marked wrong. However, the system suggests answers similar to the correct response and your response, giving users the option to override and mark a given answer as correct. Some additional explanation of the concepts could strengthen the module and make it more self-contained.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
These flashcard are very interactive. Terminology is repeated in different ways (definitions, multiple choice, completion exercise, matching activity).
Flashcards users find difficult can be marked star which causes the system to generate a reduced set of flashcard.
The cards can be shuffled which generates a random order delivery.
After going through the flash cards, users have options to continue drill and practice by playing different games such as Scatter and Space Race. Users must type quickly to get through them in the time allowed.
It would be easy for instructors to create assignments that incorporate the use of the flashcards.
In addition, user can add personalized flashcards to the set.
For drill and practice, this module is very efficient.
Instructors can use the site to create a set of flashcards for a unit and then embed a link to them in any Course Management System (see features from the drop down list under More Tools)
Concerns:
The module does not identify learning objectives clearly or prerequisite knowledge. However, the flashcards serve as the prerequisite knowledge required to be successful in the games and test.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The module is easy to use, engaging, and very interactive.
Users have the option of generating fill-in-the blank, matching, and multiple choice tests. In addition, test can automatically be regenerated, which provides a randomness to the items provided.
Bu using the More Tools options, users can print or export content. Instructors can also embed links to contents in their Course Management System content.
The site functions using Chrome, IE, or Firefox.
The site developers also include a link to provide feedback or report issues.
Concerns:
No specific instructions are provided, but links at the top (starting with the flash cards and progressing until the test at the end)are somewhat intuitive. Speed is an issue in some of the games, but continued practice improves the time it takes to enter a correct response. The module could also be more visually appealing.
