Learning Outcomes

Foundational Competencies§

Compare the organization, structure and function of health care, public health and regulatory systems across national and international settings. By assessing the prediabetic program, I will compare NMCCL pre-diabetic program with that of the CDC’s.  I will utilize the CDC’s pre-diabetic program as the foundation of the NMCCL program, comparing the curriculum of each program.

Assess population needs, assets and capacities that affect communities health.            By participating in the prediabetic program and evaluating the information that is being taught to the patients, this will provide insight as to the social and community factors impacting the military population and their diagnosis of prediabetes.

Design a population-based policy, program, project or intervention            Developing a Standard Operating Procedure provides step by step instructions/guidelines will provide all staff members with the written material required ensuring that all patients receive the best standard of care possible.

Communicate audience-appropriate public health content, both in writing and through oral presentation.  At the end of my internship I will present my finding of my evaluation along with my internship experience to not only the Health Promotion and             Wellness clinic supervisor, but to the Deputy Director and Director of the Department of Public Health at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune.

Health Behavior Concentration Competencies

Design a conceptual and/or logic model to guide intervention and/or data collection for program evaluation I will be designing a conceptual/logic model guiding the data collection for the evaluation of the Pre-diabetic program at NMCCL.

Create a plan for public health partnership building to achieve common community and public health goals. In conducting an evaluation and drafting an SOP for the Pre-diabetes program, this will determine the strengths and limitations of the program, therefor driving the enhancement of partnerships among the Public health department and the clinics at the hospital. Creating a plan for these two areas to commonly work together to improve the overall public health of the patients is essential.

Assessment

There will be a mid-term evaluation as well as a final evaluation completed by the preceptor, yet reviewed with the intern.
