Pedagogical Approach
This course was developed as a fully-online approach; however, it can be adapted into a hybrid or traditional face-to-face.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Analyze and explain the purpose of assessment in early childhood.
- Analyze and explain the history of tests and measurement in early childhood.
- Describe and evaluate the issues in testing young children.
- Identify and discuss how assessment should be improved for the 21st century and used in early childhood.
- Examine how measurement and evaluation are used with infants, preschoolers, and school-age children.
- Describe the difference between formal and informal assessment.
- Explore how performance assessments reflect authentic learning.
- Evaluate the use, design, and selection of standardized tests.
- Effectively use and report standardized test results.
- Examine and analyze classroom assessments.
- Analyze and explain the use of portfolio assessment.
- Engage with others in a small group to evaluate and explain the importance of families in the assessment process of young children.
