Regression Applet

Regression Applet

The purpose of the applet is to allow students to see the effects of an outlier on a set of statistical data.  Students add a data point to an existing data plot and can move the data point anywhere on the data plot.  This allows students to see what the addition of an outlier does visually to the regression line for the data, how this changes the equation of the regression line, and how this changes the correlation coefficient relating the variables X and Y to each other.

This is a good demonstration of what happens to the regression line when an outlier is added to the data set. I would like to see the option to add more than a single data point but that does not diminish the value of this in reinforcing the concept of regression and the impact of an outlier.
