Objectives: 1. Students will know that the
Earth orbits the Sun and the Moon orbits the Earth. 2. Students will use
dictionaries to learn the meanings of unknown words. 3. Students will
distinguish main ideas in text.
CDE Science: Earth Sciences 4d. Students know
that Earth is one of several planets that orbit the Sun and that the Moon orbits
Earth.
CDE Language Arts: Reading Comprehension: 2.5 Distinguish the main idea
and supporting details in expository text. Word Analysis: 1.7 Use a dictionary
to learn the meaning and other features of unknown words.

Critical Teacher Tasks:
1. This is an individual activity. 2. Coordinate help from peer helpers. 3. It
is a reading and dictionary activity. 4. Teacher must successfully navigate the
websites. 5. Teacher will facilitate the instruction and discussion. 6. This is
a 1-2 day activity.
Critical Student Tasks: 1. Students will collaborate. 2.
Students will work as peer helpers. 3. Students will read Intern et text and view
the pictures. 4. Students will use dictionaries to define assigned terms. 5.
Students will ask questions and record data from observations. 6. Students will
work hard and effectively. 7. Students will refer to the E/A rubric for
expectations. 8. Students will orally share their definitions with the class.
Assessment: Informally through teacher observation. Formally by using the effort
and achievement rubric.
