Objectives: 1. Students will know that the moon changes appearances during the
lunar cycle. 2. Students will create a single paragraph. 3. Students will write
legibly in joined italic.
CDE Science: Earth Sciences: 4b. Students know the way in which the Moon's
appearance changes during the four-week lunar cycle.
CDE Language Arts: Writing Strategies: Organization and Focus: 1.1 Create a
single paragraph: 1a. Develop a topic sentence. 1b. Include simple supporting
facts and details.

Critical Teacher Tasks: 1. This is a group activity. 2. Coordinate help from
parents. 3. It is a writing activity. 4. The building of the satellite is for
enrichment. 5. Teacher must successfully navigate the websites. 6. Teacher will
facilitate the instruction and discussion. 7. This is a 3-5 day activity. 8.
Teacher will provide materials or send materials list home.
Critical Student Tasks: 1. Students will collaborate. 2. Students will work as
peer helpers. 3. Students will read Internet text and view the pictures. 4.
Students will use graphic organizers to organize their thoughts. 5. Students
will ask questions and record data from observations. 6. Students will work hard
and effectively. 7. Students will refer to the E/A rubric for expectations. 8.
Students will orally share their writings and project with the class.
Assessment: Informally through teacher observation. Formally per the effort and
