Lesson Title: Solar Systems
Objectives: 1. Students will know the planets of our solar system.
2. Students will write a paragraph about an assigned
planet.
3. Student groups will create a Power Point presentation about an
assigned planet.
CDE Science: Earth Sciences 4d: Students know that Earth is one of several
planets that orbit the Sun and that the Moon orbits Earth.
CDE Language Arts: Organization and Focus 1.1: Create a single paragraph: 1a.
Develop a topic sentence.1b. Include simple supporting facts and details.
Penmanship: 1.2 Write legibly in cursive or joined italic, allowing margins and
correct spacing between letters in a word and words in a sentence. Evaluation
and Revision: 1.4 Revise drafts to improve the coherence and logical progression
of ideas by using an established rubric.
NETS: #4: Use general purpose productivity tools and peripherals to support
personal productivity, remediate skill deficits, and facilitate learning
throughout the curriculum. #5: Use technology tools (e.g., multimedia authoring,
presentation, Web tools, digital cameras, and scanners) for individual and
collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to create
knowledge products for audiences inside and outside the classroom.

Critical Teacher Tasks: 1. Facilitate discussion. 2. Instruct as a writing and
research activity. 3. Assess as needed to drive instruction. 4. Monitor the use
of the Internet. 5. This can also be a reading activity. 6. This is a tech
presentation activity. 7. Final projects will be judged for final assessment. 8.
Don?t forget the tech presentation skills (PPT.).
Critical Student Tasks: 1. Actively question the instructor. 2. Use the
Internet in a responsible manner. 3. Write down observations in science journal.
4. Work collaboratively with peers. 5. Partner read for fluency.
Assessment: Informal as needed with observations by teacher during class time.
Formal with the effort and achievement rubric. Also check for understanding
during activity. Final project will be judged.
