This assignment is hands on and it is designed to have students creating a sun-viewer. Collaboration is a theme too. Please post any ideas or help. I could use it!

Exercise

Grade Level: Kindergarten

Lesson Title: Safe Sunspotters

Objectives: 1. Students will create a safe sun viewing instrument.
2. Students will become competent in the use of a digital
camera.
3. Students will collaborate to create Power Point
presentation.

CDE Science: Investigation and Experimentation 4a. Observe common objects by
using the five senses. 4b. Describe the properties of common objects. 4e.
Communicate observations orally and through drawings.

CDE Language Arts: Written and Oral English Language Conventions: Sentence
Structure
1.1 Recognize and use complete, coherent sentences when speaking. Spelling 1.2:
Spell independently by using pre-phonetic knowledge, sounds of the alphabet, and
knowledge of letter names. Listening and Speaking: Comprehension 1.1 Understand
and follow one-and two-step oral directions. 1.2 Share information and ideas,
speaking audibly in complete, coherent sentences.

NETS: #9: Use technology resources (e.g., puzzles, logical thinking programs,
writing tools, digital cameras, drawing tools) for problem solving,
communication, and illustration of thoughts, ideas, and stories.

Critical Teacher Tasks: 1. Teacher will send home a parts list. 2. Parents will
be involved. 3. Instruct on digital cameras and Power Point. 4. Facilitate any
small group instruction.

Critical Student Tasks: 1. Work diligently in viewer creation. 2. Collaborate
with peers. 3. Make observations. 4. Create Science journals. 5. Create the
presentation according to your notes. 6. Use technology equipment.

Assessment: Informal as according to the oral language conventions. Formal as
according to the Effort/Achievement Rubric.
