Sample Midterm for Muscle Physiology Section of Human Physiology Course to Supplement Actin-Myosin Crossbridge Animation

This midterm is a sample from Prof. Roger Sabbadini's Muscle Physiology section of the BIO590 (upper division) Human Physiology course at San Diego State University. There are a handful of related questions to the crossbridge animation in the midterm. The animation would be best supplemented with the Color Atlas of Physiology on which it is based in order for the student to successfully answer the related midterm questions if they are not taught the details of the system in lecture. The Biology 590 course is typically populated with pre-professional students (pre-med, pre-dent, pre-vet, etc.) and entering graduate students in biology.

To gain an understanding of a complex dynamic system basic to the study of muscle physiology. By using animation rather than a sequence of 2-dimensional images in a textbook (which itself is still very useful!), we help reduce the cognitive load on the brain of the student not so spatially-inclined who would otherwise be required to piece together the sequence themselves with textbook alone -- unless it was a flipbook! :-)
