While it is intended for a high school audience, I feel that I could use this for a middle school classroom if I give some context to understanding the key words and phrases. EDI: This graphic is helpful for English Language learners as it organizes and categorizes information in an easy-to-view way.

This web sources provides several primary sources in the form of letters written near or after the conclusion of the American Civil War. In particular, many of the letters are written by soldiers, officers, and even civilians sharing their perspectives on the end of the war and the death of President Lincoln. I would consider using some of these sources as a form of teaching my students reading skills, such as analyzing for context and POV.

This web source is a video lecture by a professor of Yale on the subject of the end of the civil war and beyond. While I wouldn't want to share the whole video with my students, especially since it is so long, they might lose interest. As such, I would fast forward to or use the part at the end to augment my lecture, particularly how African Americans played a role in turning a new life for the country after the war ended.
