Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
This stand-alone online, self-paced course is part of the Educability project, funded by the European Union’s Erasmus + programme. Content is current and relevant, and includes research-based references.
The material is concise, provides some demonstrations, demonstrates a mobile literacy grounded in the discipline, including research-based references. The modules are self-contained, and may be flexibly applied to academic and daily life. All content is labelled with appropriate attribution.
Concerns:
The material has some language errors, is not current and relevant (last updated 2023) and thus provides some inaccurate information.
Not all links work. There are spelling and citation errors.
Sometimes the audience is not unclear: the module addresses learners and educators.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
The learning objectives are clearly identified, and reflect ICT standards within each module but not as a whole. Each of the six modules has the same structure: introductory materials (usually readings and videos), check for understanding, sample actitivities (usually reflections on readings), and complementary material. Modules build concepts progressively on their prior one. Key articles and frequent checks facilitate efficient learning. The modules are, in effect, ready-made assignments. The concepts are applicable to ICT literacy used in academic and daily life.
Concerns:
There is no identification of prerequisite knowledge and the content is quite brief with few examples within the text. Referenced examples are outdated. The checks for understanding are not always robust.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The site has a clear and consistent layout that is easy to navigate independently, and provides clear instructions. While text heavy, the checks for understanding are engaging, and the modules as a whole require interaction. The site is largely ADA-compliant, except for 1) the videos, which are no closed-captioned or accmpanied by a transcript; 2) some checks for understanding.
Concerns:
A summary of interactions are provided, but one must download the publisher's manual and use Moodle to activate some of the features. No help feature is included, and some links do not work. The software is not robust and not all quizzes are easy to navigate to obtain the correct answers. The site is available in English and Spanish, but learners need a special key to access the Spanish version.
