Effectiveness: 5 stars
Ease of Use: 5 stars
Reviewed: Jul 28, 2001 by Health Sciences
Overview: This site is designed to teach children (ages not specified but seem to be grades 4 and higher) about health, science, and technology. There are several different aspects of the site including a library of over 80 short movies on a variety of topics. There is a pop test prior to each movie to allow the student to assess prior knowledge. The presentation is concise, interesting, and uses many different approaches to the topics.
Type of Material: This is a multi-purpose web site that has voice, video, question & answer, as well as additional text materials.
Technical Requirements: The technical requirements are very minor. Everything is point and click and not special soft wear is required.
Identify Major Learning Goals: Specific learning goals are not specified but the general approach seems to be to provide factual information on topics in health, science, and technology.
Target Student Population: This is not specified but appears to be grade school students including home schooled students.
Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills: There little prerequisite knowledge required. Additional links are provided to further develop topics, however.

Evaluation and Observation

Content Quality

Rating: 5 stars
Strengths: The videos are of high quality in content. They are designed for children and will capture and hold their attention. This site will only allow viewing of 5 videos per day however, unless you make special arraignments in advance.
Concerns: The cost for this site is $100 per year for unlimited use. Whether there is sufficient material here to justify this cost is not clear. Again, only five sites per day can be viewed for free.
