Pathology Case Study: Parotid Gland Mass
The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine's Department of Pathology has compiled a series of case studies to help both students and instructors. In this particular case, a 53-year-old woman was treated for a "progressively enlarging, painless mass in the area of the left parotid gland." Gross and microscopic images and descriptions of the specimen removed from the patient are included in the case study. The "Final Diagnosis" section provides the official diagnosis of the patient and a detailed description provided by the contributing doctors. This is an excellent resource for students in the health sciences to familiarize themselves with using patient history and laboratory results to diagnose disease. It is also a helpful site for educators to use to introduce or test student knowledge of head and neck pathology.
