Shrinking Candles, Running Water, Folding Boxes

Created by Jill Stevens of Illuminations: Resources for Teaching Mathematics, this activity allows students to look for functions within a given set of data. After analyzing the data, the student should be able to determine a type of function that best represents the data. The lesson provides graphs from a T-89 graphing calculator, easily allowing students to compare their answers with those provided. The site also offers insight on: learning objectives, needed materials, an instructional plan, compliance with NCTM standards and expectations and references.
