Spinning Wheel
This activity, created by faculty members at the University of Virginia, uses a computer program to explore probability concepts such as sample space, independent events, law of large numbers, and reliability. An outline of the activity and the computer program are provided. In this lesson, the authors pose questions that cross disciplines, they ask: "What are the biological, economic, social and ethical explorations that can be made based upon the understanding of this useful mathematics?" This makes for an interesting examination of how mathematics can be applied to these different areas.
