Sacramento Delta
From Foothill College and the Using a Web-Based GIS to Teach Problem-Based Science in High School and College project, this module allows students to explore real-life water and wildlife problems facing the vulnerable Sacramento Delta. In this activity, students are able to learn more about the importance of the water supply and environment of the delta, the various problems which threaten its viability, the stakeholders who are poised to benefit or lose from possible solutions, and a list of terms for students to learn throughout the activity. Each section of the site has a learning task for students to perform, from mapping the delta and the habitats within, to answering questions and making inferences about data presented. This resource will allow students to gain hands-on skill with GIS applied to the meaningful, real-life problem of preserving the Sacramento Delta and the creatures that call it home.
