This video lab manual, by the Interdisciplinary Education Group of the University of Wisconsin ��_�__ Madison Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC), walks students through the process of "coating silver with a monolayer of octadecanethiol [that] produces a non-polar surface on which water beads up." Each step of the procedure is detailed and accompanied with a video showing the step as it is performed. A brief background of the procedure, and the necessary safety and laboratory materials are also given. This is a very clear and detailed resource for students to explore nanotechnology and advanced materials science through hands-on laboratory activities. A printer-friendly version with an example image for each step is also available, perfect for a handout in a class without enough computers for all students.
