In this cooperative learning activity students participate in a simulation of a parachute jump competition by making paper Whirlybirds, and then dropping them towards a target ( wooden block) on the floor. Students measure the distance the whirlybird is from the target for each drop, display their data in a table, and create a frequency fraction for each "zone" of measurement (Zones are categorized into 10 centimeter intervals). Mean, mode and median are also calculated and students analyze the data to determine the frequency of a parachutist hitting a target area.
