Welcome to the KMCB 0201 Outpatient Medical Coding course. This course examines how and why a medical coder translates patient chart notes and surgical notes into medical numerical and alphabetic codes for insurance billing. Concepts and rules governing diagnostic and procedural coding in the outpatient setting are taught using the ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding manuals. Students will learn HIPAA laws and regulations and will become HIPAA certified. The course includes web-enhanced lectures, exercises, and practical applications using Canvas.
