Prealgebra

A clear, methodical approach to topics in prealgebra, with good explanations of concepts. This book includes plenty of examples and then exercises. Equation solving is started earlier and used throughout.

Geometric topics (e.g., area and perimeter) are presented throughout the text so students might actually remember them. The applications (word problems) are mostly realistic, and the applications are spread throughout the text, not...

Comprehensiveness: This textbook provides a thorough overview of numerous pre-algebra concepts needed to prepare a student for an algebra course. I find that the examples are excellent. It is helpful to provide opportunities for students to practice working on similar problems with the “You try it” ones that appear after each example. “Pronounce the result” is an excellent feature allowing students to learn how to verbalize a number properly. Another valuable feature is the “Caution” section, which warns students that they can arrive at incorrect answers if they do not apply the rules correctly. It did not include a geometry chapter but had perimeter and area in the whole numbers chapter. Content Accuracy: I did not find errors in the presented definitions, properties, or explanations. Relevance/Longevity: The textbook is relevant and uses relatable examples. Clarity: The explanations are well-written, concise, and easy to understand. The presentation of the various application problem examples provided throughout the text is organized in a way students can understand and grasp the concepts. Consistency: The terminology and framework appear consistent throughout the text. Organization/Structure/Flow: The content is well-organized and arranged logically. The structure is consistent throughout the text. Grammatical Errors: I did not find any grammatical mistakes.
