This open textbook is being utilized in a General Chemistry course for undergraduate engineering students by Steven Runyon, Ph.D., at the California State University - Maritime Academy. The open textbook provides the fundamental concepts in chemistry needed for the foundation of an engineering degree. The main motivation to adopt an open textbook was to provide a low-cost alternative to out of control publisher pricing of modern textbooks. Most students access the open textbook in PDF format, although some opt to purchase a hard copy.
