The article sets the stage for further studies relative to the efforts initiated by the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing ((AAACN) to identify, define and test nurse-sensitive indicators (NSIs) which will define professional nursing's value to the patient, organization and industry. The article also summarizes the findings of an Industry Report addressing measures of nursing quality prepared by the NSI Task Force (TF) which just completed a 2-year investigation.
