This site is useful to educators for the following reasons:
- Instructors can find descriptions of learning dissabilities on the site.
- Learner needs are discussed and resources can be located for over coming learning disabilities.
- Students can be referred to tutorials on basic technology competencies.
This Open University Web Guide is concerned with Internet accessibility issues. The site provides links to Microsoft resource guides which describe various kinds of learning disabilities and offer informative tutorials for addressing the needs of disabled persons in online scenarios. The tutorials seem particularly useful as they give step by step instructions to features that are built into many Windows based programs such as screen zoom, Windows XP Accessibility Wizard, and more. Overviews of various types of assistive technology products can also be found by following a link. Additionally, the web site offers tutorials for new technology users regarding tasks such as using a web browser, printing, copying text, keyboard short cuts, and so on.
The site is practical and the user interface seems well designed. The site is not cluttered, the links are clearly visible and appropriately labeled, and the site serves a single purpose. I didn’t find anything negative about the site, which is most effective as a kind of portal to various Microsoft tutorials and resources. If there is a fault with the site, it might be that the links all point to official Microsoft resource sites.
