Shockwave Physics Studios
This site uses Macromedia Shockwave player to bring physics concepts to life. This site is for high school and college students who have a hard time grasping the concepts from a text book and need to see them in action. The site is fully interactive and lets students play around with some of the more "dry" parts of physics principals such as the different types of motion. In this site, a student can learn about gravitation by adjusting the mass of an object and a planet, then dragging the object all around the screen to see how different mass and distance both affect gravitation. There is also a section all about beat patterns, so you can see how frequency affects sounds by increasing or decreasing the frequency of the different waves. Another fun section is the target shooting, where students are given a problem that asks what speed a cannon must fire to hit an object a certain distance away. The cannon will fire based on the answer you give, and the student can see how close they would come (or if they hit it). All interactive lesson plans also come with an activity sheet that goes into greater depth and gives you problems to answer using the modules. The site is easy to navigate, but does not work well with Firefox, so use Internet Explorer. Technical requirements are Macromedia Shockwave.
