Mechanism of Drug Addiction

This is an entertaining animation on the mechanism of drug addiction.  It is an animation of lab rats in a cage, each exhibiting the effects of various drugs (i.e. heroine, cocaine, alcohol).  The user selects a rat and is then shown an animation of the mechanism of action these drugs have on the body.

They approach the following topics related to the neurobiology of drug addiction.

Methamphetamine actions on dopamine vesicles.
LSD action on serotonin receptors.
Heroin effects on opioid receptors .
How marijuana interacts with the cannabinoid system and its receptors.
Activation of the GABA-A ionotropic receptor by alcohol.
Cocaine action on dopamine reuptake.
