These slides provide an introduction to the structure and function of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) in relation to organisms, genes, gene expression and protein synthesis. It is a basic introduction to DNA, genes and genomes, the chemistry of nucleic acid structure and its various conformations. The slides have a quiz at the end which can be used to evaluate learning outcomes at the end of the lecture. The resource is used in teaching fundamental concepts to first year undergraduate students in the biosciences. It was created by Dr. Momna Hejmadi and source file can be adapted for educational and non-commercial purposes only as licensed under the Creative Commons licence.
