This lesson provides wonderful scaffolding for students.  The use of a SMARTboard provides interactive discussion, students create word wheels for guided practice, a digital story is created for independent practice, and finally students are assessed through a quiz.  The use of technology is also very appropriate for first grade.  I would use this lesson plan in a lower elementary classroom.
