This book is intended for students of the natural and engineering sciences (especially mechanical and industrial engineers, logisticians and aerospace engineers), as well as students of business administration.

The subjects discussed have been intentionally selected with a strong practical orientation in mind. The book was created as part of lectures, seminars and laboratory exercises that the author has held for years at the Technical University Wildau. Additionally, the experience of industrial assignments and the supervision of diploma and bachelor theses helped refine the content matter.

Due to the complexity but also the currency of the subject matter, there is a large number of widely differing textbooks available.
