Material Detail

This is a grading rubric that can be used to evaluate a short, 1 to 2 page typed double analysis in response to a general question about a reading assignment. 

Instructors may use this rubric to evaluate student writing in a 100 level course with or without an English 101 prerequisite to determine if students demonstrated the ability, through writing, to:

1) Develop a focused, arguable thesis statement that is consistently supported throughout the essay by relevant examples and researched, documented information.

2) Contain organized, well-developed, and unified paragraphs.

3) Illustrate effective organizational and revision techniques--adding, deleting, substituting, and reordering elements--consistent with the essay's purpose

4) Illustrate the student's ability to proofread and edit original writing and correct errors in sentence patterning, word forms, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, and mechanics.
