Alcoholic liver disease represents a timeless teaching opportunity for health professional students. Due to the significant rise in alcohol abuse worldwide, health professional students must be able to prevent, recognize, diagnose and treat individuals with progressive liver disease due to alcoholism. We have developed an integrated clinical case study of a man with alcoholic liver disease progressing to cirrhosis for first year health professional students. The case can be delivered either in person or via a virtual setting and can be readily adopted by faculty at their institution. Learning objectives include the functional anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry of the liver and their application to the clinical, signs, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment for alcoholic liver disease. Through this integrated clinical case, students will obtain a comprehensive learning experience to understand liver pathology due to alcohol.
