The Modern Classrooms Project provides professional development and coaching to teachers to help them meet their students’ academic needs by integrating self-pacedand mastery-based principles and technology into instruction. This approach works todevelop students’ abilities to engage in self-directed learning. In this study, teachers opted to participate in a week-long summer training and ongoing coaching and mentoring by Modern Classrooms staff. The Modern Classrooms Project contracted with the Center for Research and Reform in Education (CRRE) at Johns Hopkins University to conduct a study of the efficacy of The Modern Classrooms approach on teacher and student outcomes during the 2019–20 school year.
