PERS 1A is an introduction to the Persian language and culture with focus on Modern Persian, the language of contemporary Iran. The dialect used in class is mainly spoken in the capital city of Tehran.  Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills will be developed through oral and written exercises, dialogues, acquiring a sizable vocabulary, and studying Persian grammatical rules and sentence structures.  Aspects of Persian culture will also be studied through selected films and examples of Persian poetry and prose, in Persian and English translation.
