What is today’s digital, networked world and how does it affect how the average American learns about immigration history? In this assignment, you’ll begin to answer this question by exploring the digital, networked world that most of us use every day: the World Wide Web (WWW or W3). Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to use the Web to find information about the history of immigration in the United States. The details of how you do so is up to you—the aim is to observe what you intuitively do. In other words, don’t worry about whether you’re finding information the “right” or “wrong” way, but do keep track of how you’re doing it and what you’re learning about immigration history along the way. Part I will guide you through one method for recording your information-gathering process using (a) an Internet search engine and (b) a Large Language Model (LLM) AI.

Part II will ask you to critically compare your experiences with these two interfaces.
