"Ecocriticism and Literature" delves into the intersection of ecology and literary studies, offering a comprehensive exploration of environmental perspectives within literary texts. Through the lens of ecocriticism, this textbook examines various thematic concerns, including zones of sacrifice, apocalypse, anthropocentrism, posthumanism, ecofeminism, eco-marxism, and environmentalism.
The book begins by introducing the foundational principles of ecocriticism, elucidating how this interdisciplinary approach analyzes literary texts about ecological concerns. It then delves into the concept of zones of sacrifice, exploring the theme of apocalypse and critiques anthropocentrism, challenging human-centric views of the world and advocating for a more holistic understanding of planetary interconnectedness. Ecofeminism is explored through the lens of gender and ecology, highlighting the intersections of environmental degradation and social injustice. This text is a student-led research guide that was originally designed by undergraduate and graduate students in a library guide format using SpringShare.
